The Wrecking Crew

The Wrecking Crew, studio musicians, created the sound for some of the biggest hits and most familiar tunes of a generation. These L.A. session musicians anonymously played on many of the biggest musical hits of the 60s and 70s, including hits by the Beach Boys, Monkees, 5th Dimension, and numerous TV themes.



Members of ‘The Wrecking Crew’ included:

  • saxophone: Steve Douglas, Jim Horn, Nino Tempo, Gene Cipriano
  • trumpet: Roy Caton, Tony Terran, Ollie Mitchell
  • trombone: Lou Blackburn, Lew McCreary
  • keyboards: Leon Russell, Dr. John Mac Rebennack, Mike Melvoin, Don Randi, Larry Knechtel, Al Delory , Mike Rubini
  • bass: Carol Kaye, Joe Osborn, Chuck Berghofer, Ray Pohlman, Larry Knechtel, Lyle Ritz, Jimmy Bond (007)
  • drums: Hal Blaine, Earl Palmer, Jim Gordon
  • percussion: Julius Wechter, Gary Coleman , Frank Capp (contractor)
  • conductor/arranger: Jack Nitzsche
  • Harmonica: Tommy Morgan
  • The Ron Hicklin Singers, often performed backup vocals on many of the same songs on which The Wrecking Crew had played instrumental tracks.
